Birds, import and archiving

The ring is the key

Every bird is identified by its ring. The format depends on the country; the app recognises the Romanian one and the common European ones.

The ring is also what links race results to your bird on import. When a result does not match, it is almost always a difference in ring format, not a missing bird.

Import from Excel or CSV

During import you map what each column in your file means. You do not have to rewrite anything.

Before anything is saved you see a row-by-row preview. Problem rows are flagged and can be downloaded separately, so you fix those and retry only them.

If you realise the import was wrong, cancel the import. Everything it created is removed in one action.

Archiving versus deleting

These are two different things, and the difference matters.

Archiving takes the bird out of your working lists but keeps it in the database. It stays available in pedigrees, because the ancestors of an active bird have to exist somewhere. An archived bird can be restored at any time.

Permanent deletion removes it from the database. Pedigree links pointing at it are lost. It cannot be undone, which is why it asks for a typed confirmation.

Archived birds still count towards the 50-bird cap. This is not an oversight, it is a consequence: if they did not count, you could keep any number of birds in the archive and the cap would mean nothing. If you need to free up space, permanent deletion is the option.
