Getting started

What you need to begin

Nothing special. An account, your loft, and a first ring.

The free account covers 50 birds, with no card and no trial that expires. If you have more, the paid plans lift the cap.

The order that works best

  1. Fill in the loft. Name and coordinates. The coordinates are not optional detail: we compute race distance from them automatically.
  2. Add a few birds by hand. Enough to see which fields actually matter to you.
  3. Link parents. A pedigree is built from the bottom up. You do not need the whole tree at once.
  4. Only then import in bulk. Once you know which columns you need, importing makes sense.

Many people do the reverse, start with a large import, and discover afterwards that a column is missing. Ten birds entered by hand save you a re-import.

Coming from another app

The Excel and CSV import accepts files exported from other programs. You do not have to match the columns exactly: you map them during import.

If your pedigrees are on paper, the scan reads them and proposes the tree. You review and confirm every field before anything is saved.

Worth knowing up front

The data is yours. You can export all of it at any time, in open formats. You do not need to ask us, and you do not pay for it.
